Artificial intelligence (AI) is a hot topic right now, as it is changing the course of technology and consequently revolutionizing the world. Despite all the hype, the majority of influential business owners are not familiar with the concept. Many of us have a vague idea about the frequently mentioned buzzword, but only few actually understand how it works. AI has the potential to infiltrate every industry that currently exists, so we shall prepare ourselves to adjust with the transformation.

Generally speaking, AI can be described as a prototype of the human mind; it is the branch of computer science that focuses on training machines to think and solve problems like real people. Computers are already more efficient and powerful at undertaking tasks that require a limited or predefined set of analytical skills; monotonous and repetitive work is completed without human errors. This implies that previously manufactured machines could only accomplish specific actions they were programmed for. Artificial intelligence uses machine learning and deep learning to develop its functions, rather than depending on people to feed it with instructions.

Through machine learning and deep learning, computers can distinguish between accurate and faulty data, or interesting and uninteresting information. The idea is similar to learning from mistakes, which is a quality exclusive to human beings. While Google search engine predictions, Amazon’s product suggestions, functionality of ride sharing apps, and spam filters are everyday applications of AI, facial recognition software and self-driving cars showcase it at a more advanced level.

Artificial intelligence is a complex and expensive technology, which is why it is still far from displaying its true capacity. Only few organizations have the resources and expertise to develop its refined form, so what we see all around us is still AI at a preliminary stage. While virtual assistants like Google, Siri, and Alexa have managed to communicate it a more natural manner, they still lack in emotion and intellect. Data scientists claim that the next generation of AI will be much more progressive and sophisticated. Technology is continuously improving and there is no doubt about it going beyond human tendencies.

The upcoming models of artificial intelligence are expected to be as intelligent as we are, minus our mortal limitations. This means they will function tirelessly, having resistance to a variety of factors that affect human productivity and response. The question is that will robots eventually replace humans in all aspects of life? Can a machine act like a competent doctor and perform a complicated surgery, or can a computerized being play the role of a criminal defense lawyer and win a highly challenging case?

While the fear of losing our livelihood does seem like a reasonable threat, we can assume that development of AI will create many new jobs in the market as well. It is a popular belief that AI will accelerate innovation and discovery; as machines are much better at evaluating data, they may find a cure for cancer sooner than we think. We have already seen a couple of AI inventions that could easily pass as a real person. The times are nearing when we won’t be able to tell the difference between a robot and an actual human being. This could cause a huge shift in the entertainment industry and deeply influence social relationships in the future.

The upcoming models of artificial intelligence are expected to be as intelligent as we are, minus our mortal limitations.
