Frizzy hair can be a pain to manage, especially during these hot and humid days. Frizz is the consequence of dry or dehydrated hair, so the key is to balance hair moisture. Girls and guys with curly hair tend to suffer the most. Letting hair hang loose starts with ‘not so bad’ and rapidly turns into ‘this is a disaster’. Tying or securing your hair into a bun or braid seems like the only way to make it look presentable; some people even opt for headscarves to hide the fuzzy mess. Taming frizzy hair is not impossible; try one or more of these natural home remedies on a weekly basis for best results.
1. Cold Water Rinse
When you shampoo your hair, it is recommended to use warm water as it helps widen the scalp pores and remove residue. However, someone who has dry/frizzy hair must not use shampoo on a daily basis because the chemicals strip the hair of its natural moisture. Wait two days before the next wash; rinse your hair with plain cold water during the days in-between. Your hair will hydrate and fizziness will greatly reduce.
2. Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple Cider Vinegar has several benefits for the hair, thanks to its low pH value. Healthy hair has an acidic pH (between 4.5 and 5.5); hence, your luscious locks can get frizzy when the pH value exceeds 7 and becomes alkaline. Apple Cider vinegar helps flatten and close the hair cuticles, enabling smoother, shinier, and tangle free hair. You may dilute it by 50% before applying to hair. Let it stay for 15-20 minutes before rinsing with cold water.
3. Lemon and Coconut Oil
Squeeze out one tablespoon of lemon juice and mix it with 2 tablespoons of warm coconut oil. Gently apply the mixture on your scalp and hair strands. Wash your hair after 30-40 minutes and air dry. Restoration of luster and moisture shall be evident after first try.
4. Avocado and Olive Oil
Avocado and Olive oil are rich in good fatty acids and vitamins, making them ideal for replenishing moisture whilst nourishing your hair. Mash a medium sized avocado and add some olive oil to make a hair mask. Shampoo your hair and apply the mask while they are still damp; leave the mask for an hour and then follow by rinsing and conditioning.
5. Aloe Vera and Castor Oil
Aloe Vera on its own does not help dry hair, but blend it with castor oil and it produces a miracle. Get this all over your head and cap it for half an hour. Then you may shampoo and condition your hair afterwards.
6. Pumpkin and Honey
You will need half a cup of fresh pureed pumpkin and 2 tablespoon of raw organic honey for this antidote. Generously apply this sticky concoction on your scalp and hair. Cap your hair and leave them like that for an hour before washing.
7. Banana and Coconut Milk
Make a thick banana smoothie for your hair using a banana and some coconut milk. Apply it to the entire length of your hair and wash it off after 45 minutes.
8. Almond Oil and Mayo
Both almond and mayo contain healthy fats and possess conditioning properties. Mix equal amounts of both ingredients and massage it onto your hair. Your hair will become ten times softer and manageable by the end of thirty days.
9. Eggs and Yogurt
The nutrients of egg and the acidity of yogurt are the perfect combination for attaining sleek and tamed hair. Beat an egg with quarter cup of yogurt, and allow it to envelop your hair for 30-40 minutes. Shampoo and condition the hair afterwards to get rid of the egg smell.
